What makes a stream moment clip-worthy? Inside our hype scoring
Every clip in a CLIPFARM dashboard arrives with a number on it — a hype score. Streamers ask us what that number actually means, and it is a fair question: if you are going to trust a machine to tell you which 40 seconds of your stream deserve TikTok, you deserve to know how it decides. Here is what goes into the score.
The problem with any single signal
Most auto-clipping approaches lean on one signal, and each one alone has an obvious failure mode. Chat-activity spikes miss small streamers with quiet chats — and fire on drama that has nothing to do with gameplay. Audio-only detection misses the streamer who goes dead silent during a clutch. Game events alone can't tell the routine boss kill from the one that took 43 attempts. Any one lens lies to you regularly. So the farm uses three.
Signal one: game events, read off the screen
For games with trained detectors, the farm reads the video itself. In Souls games that is the YOU DIED screen and boss-kill moments (details here); in COD it is killfeed entries and streaks (details here). No game API, no overlay plugin — if it happened on screen, the detector saw it. Game events anchor a moment in fact: something objectively happened at this timestamp.
Signal two: crowd noise
The second pass listens. Not for loudness in absolute terms — a naturally loud streamer would max it out constantly — but for spikes against the stream's own baseline. The scream after the 1v3, the dead silence broken by "NO WAY", the chair pushed back from the desk: these register as deviations from how this particular stream normally sounds. It is the signal that catches moments no game event announces, like a jumpscare or a chat-erupting fail.
Signal three: the AI judge
The third signal is the expensive one, and the reason the farm runs on real GPUs: an AI judge that scores every moment of the VOD for hype — not just the timestamps the other two signals flagged. The judge is what understands context. A death at a boss's 2% health bar is a better clip than a death to fall damage in a tutorial zone, even though the YOU DIED screen looks identical. A third kill four seconds after the first two is a different animal than three kills spread over a minute.
How the score comes together
A moment where all three signals agree — a detected event, a crowd-noise spike, and a high judge score — is a 90+ clip, the kind you post the same day. Moments where only one or two signals fire land lower. That is by design:
- The score is a ranking, not a verdict. It exists so you can sort 12 clips and keep 3 without watching any of them twice.
- Low scores are information too. An 82 might still be your brand — an inside joke the judge can't fully appreciate. It is in your dashboard either way.
- Quiet streamers are not penalized. Because crowd noise is measured against your own baseline, a sharp intake of breath from a calm streamer can weigh like a scream from a loud one.
What this means for your posting habit
The practical upshot: you stop being the person who decides what was good by scrubbing a timeline at 2x, and become the person who curates a ranked shortlist. Sort by score, post the top of the list, bank the rest.
