What does VOD stand for?
VOD stands for video on demand: a recording viewers can watch whenever they want, as opposed to the live broadcast, which happens once and is gone. When your stream ends, the platform assembles the broadcast into a replay file and attaches it to your channel. That replay is the VOD. Streamers say "the VOD" the way filmmakers say "the footage": it is the raw material everything else gets made from.
Where do my VODs live?
On Twitch, in your Video Producer (Creator Dashboard → Content → Video Producer), with public replays also showing on your channel's Videos tab if you have publishing enabled. On YouTube, live streams archive automatically as normal videos on your channel once the stream ends. Kick keeps past streams under your channel's videos as well. One toggle matters more than any other: on Twitch, check that "Store past broadcasts" is switched on in your stream settings, or your VODs never get saved at all.
How long do VODs last?
This is the part that bites people. Twitch deletes VODs after 14 days for most channels; Partners, Turbo and Prime users get 60 days (Twitch Help). Highlights and uploads survive, but the full replay does not. YouTube stream replays are the exception: they are normal videos and stay up until you delete them. The practical rule: anything you want from a Twitch VOD, extract within two weeks.
Why do VODs matter if nobody rewatches them?
Because rewatching was never the point. Almost nobody sits through a 3-hour replay, including your own fans. The VOD's value is what is inside it: a 3-hour stream typically holds 8 to 15 moments a stranger would stop scrolling for. Short-form is where streams get discovered, and the VOD is the only place short-form material can come from. A stream you never clip is a stream that happened once, to whoever was awake. A stream you clip keeps working for weeks.
What is the difference between a VOD and a clip?
Length, origin and purpose. The VOD is the whole stream, made automatically by the platform, and it is your archive. A clip is up to 60 seconds, cut from the broadcast by a human pressing a button (or by a tool from the VOD), and it is for sharing. How do you turn a VOD into content?
Three routes, in order of effort. The manual route: download the VOD, rewatch at 2x, cut and crop the moments yourself, about 3 to 4 hours of work per stream (the full workflow is in the downloader-to-editor post). What does VOD mean on Twitch?

Why are parts of my VOD muted?
Copyrighted music. Twitch scans VOD audio and mutes segments that match licensed tracks. Splitting music onto a separate audio track in OBS (and excluding it from the VOD track) keeps your voice and game audio intact.
Can I download my own VODs?
Yes. Twitch's Video Producer exports your past broadcasts directly, and YouTube replays can be downloaded from YouTube Studio. Download anything you care about before the storage window closes.
What about sub-only VODs?
They are VODs restricted to your subscribers. Clip Farm can read them like a subscriber would once you connect your Twitch account, so sub-only streams clip the same way as public ones.
Is a VOD the same as a highlight?
